About the Course
Overview
Digital communications is a key technology in our daily life and in the high-tech industry. This course presents the basic concepts and the updated innovations of digital transmission in a clear yet comprehensive way. The course is intended for electrical engineers, system engineers and project managers with professional background in electromagnetic waves and signal processing but not specifically with communication theory.

- Base-Band Transmission (Digital receiver, AWGN, signaling, synchronizaton).

- Introduction to information theory, measure of information, entropy.
- Source Coding (compression).
- Channel Capacity and Shannon limit.
- Channel Coding (error detection and correction), parity check, repetitions, block codes, convolution codes.
Part c
- Binary modulations (ASK, PSK, FSK
- M-Ary modulations (M-ASK, M-PSK, M-QAM, M-FSK).
- Multi-carrier modulations, Frequency hoping, OFDM.
- Signal-limited and bandwidth-limited systems, Trellis coded modulations.

Prof. Ely Levine
Prof. Ely Levine is a well known expert in antennas and radio engineering. He holds a BSEE and a MSEE degrees in Electrical Engineering from the Technion, Haifa, Israel and PhD in applied physics from the Weizmann Institute of Science, Rehovot, Israel.
Prof. Levine held senior development positions in leading electronics companies (Elta, Elop and others).
He joined Afeka Academic College of Engineering, Tel Aviv in 2006 where he teaches Communications, Antennas, Microwave systems and components, Wireless radio and Radar systems.
He published more than 65 papers and conference proceedings and co-authored two books.
